Marren Motorsports To Campaign A Honda In Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge In 2010
Nov. 17, 2009
OXFORD, Conn. (Nov. 17, 2009) - Marren Motorsports announced it will campaign a Honda Civic Si in the 2010 Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Street Tuner (ST) class.
Working out of its proficient 5000 sq. ft. facility in Oxford, Conn., Marren Motorsports has competed in Grand-Am since 2006 as a car builder, engine builder and prep shop along with providing track support for other teams in the series. Having fielded its own car in a professional series more than 10 years ago, this will be the team's first time campaigning in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge as its own team.
"The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge is such a great series," said Tim Marren, owner of Marren Fuel Injection and Marren Motorsports. "The ingredients in this series are how stock car racing evolved, using production based cars as a platform."
Marren Motorsports' Honda is currently being built, and will begin testing in December and January with a spring launch of the program. For the past four years, Marren Motorsports' MINI Cooper designed and fabricated race cars and engines have been campaigning in ST.
Marren has been building race cars for more than 25 years, starting at Jim Russell BSMR and constructing 40 chassis for the formula pro series using a rotary engine. He also built a March Buick GTP car before participating with a Firestone Indy Lights program, using a March chassis.
In the early 1990's more than half the field of the popular Chrysler Neon Challenge Series used Marren Motorsports' power plant and suspension.
"Marren-built cars and components have been setting poles, posting wins and winning championships for years and it will be exciting to be able to do it with a Honda," Marren noted.
Marren Fuel Injection, known on the internet as www.injector.com, is a division of Marren Motorsports, and has been supplying balanced and blueprinted fuel injectors and fuel components to all levels of racing. From top engine builders, to grassroots racing efforts, the company's fuel pressure regulator is used on all of the championship-winning Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Lexus-powered Daytona Prototypes.
Sponsors Curtiss-Ryan Honda of Shelton, Conn., Colorgraphix of Oxford, Conn. and Fragola Performance Systems and Wavetrac®, are also looking forward to their involvement. Oxford, Conn.-based Economic Development Commission is also supporting this endeavor.
